Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the fourth chapter of the reboot saga started by 20th Century Studios which has totally renewed this impressive franchise which has a long history: the first saga, made up of 5 films, arrived on screen in 1968 to 1973 and was subsequently Burton's 2001 remake arrived and finally this new iteration, which started again in 2011 and has now reached a new piece of this complex mosaic that all starts from the novel Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle, published in 1963. What can I say? Interestingly, this saga is going strong, and from what we know, we're at an interesting breaking point this time.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is coming in 2024
Yes, because Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, in fact, is set several years after the events of The War – The Planet of the Apes (arrived in cinemas in 2017 directed by Matt Reeves) which unfortunately ended in an abrupt and dramatic way with the death of the protagonist Cesare (Andy Serkis).
This time, in fact, the protagonist will be his son, Cornelius (Owen Teague), called to manage a situation on the edge, with some monkeys in the wild who have forgotten their father's teachings and others who have instead built new empires.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball (Maze Runner trilogy) and stars Owen Teague (It), Freya Allan (The Witcher), Kevin Durand (Locke & Key), Peter Macon (Shameless), and William H Macy (Fargo).
The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Avatar: Way of Water), and Patrick Aison (Prey), based on the characters created by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. The film is produced by Wes Ball, Joe Hartwick Jr. (Maze Runner), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Jason Reed (Mulan), while Peter Chernin (Planet of the Apes trilogy) and Jenno Topping (Le Mans '66 – The great challenge) are the executive producers.
The first teaser trailer of the film is available below and is truly very curious and suggestive. The new 20th Century Studios action film will arrive in cinemas in 2024.
