Yatra 2 Movie Review: Director Mahi V Raghav made ‘Yatra’ based on YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s Padayatra. YSR also pleased the fans of the rival political party. Mahi V Raghav’s latest movie ‘Yatra 2’ is the sequel to ‘Yatra’. 

This movie is a collection of incidents and events that happened from the death of his father to the swearing-in of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as the Chief Minister of AP. What is it like to see the film aside from politics? How did Mammootty and Jeeva play the roles of YSR and Jagan? How was Mahi V Raghav taken? Find out in the review.

Yatra 2 Movie Story: 

YSR (Mammootty) becomes Chief Minister for the second time. His son, Jagan Mohan Reddy (Jiva), who is contesting as an MP, will be introduced to the public during the election campaign. 150 MLAs will sign for Jagan to become Chief Minister after YSR died in a helicopter accident. The Progress Party high command, Madam (Suzanne Bernert) will make Roshaiah the CM. 

After hearing the news of his father’s death, Jagan will undertake a condolence trip to meet the bereaved families. Orders come from madam to stop it. Jagan, who defied them, says that he is the son of Rajasekhar Reddy who never turned his back and will do the yatra. He came out of the Progress Party and founded the YSRCP Party. Then what happened in the by-elections, 2014 & 2019 elections? What kind of competition did Jagan’s party face from Telugu Nadu Party chief Chandrababu (Mahesh Manjrekar)? You have to watch the movie to know.

Yatra 2 Movie Analysis: 

It is easy to tell a story that is unknown to the audience. It’s hard to tell a familiar story. It is still difficult to make a film and please people by telling a story and history that everyone knows. Director Mahi V Raghav knows that. He already has the experience of taking ‘Yatra’. In ‘Yatra 2’ that experience and dexterity as a director was once again seen.

The story of ‘Yatra 2’ is not unknown to people. Everyone knows the story. Keeping that in mind, Mahi V Raghav tried to show his mark in the story and scenes. They tried to connect the audience with emotions rather than story. Mahi V Raghav was super successful till the rest. From then on, the pace of the story slows down. There was drama in the first half. The drama eased in the second half. Again he gave high in the flag scenes.

Needless to say, ‘Yatra 2’ will be in favor of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Some political leaders and activists see it as a propaganda film. Mahi V Raghav did not follow the cheap tricks of belittling others to elevate Jagan Mohan Reddy. Not as a propaganda film, but as a story. ‘What we are facing is Chandrababu, we should not underestimate him’ said Jagan in a dialogue with the protagonist. 

As far as possible, the rest of the characters were shown less. Sharmila and Pawan have no roles. Mahi V Raghav had earlier said that there was no chance for those characters in the father-son story he wanted to tell. However… people who know history may complain that they are missing. With more focus on Jagan’s character alone, there may be comments that he is a showreel.

Original music for ‘Yatra 2’ by Santhosh Narayanan, written & directed by Mahi V Raghav, edited by Shravan Katikaneni! Every word and scene is exactly what it needs to be. Mahi did magic with words in many scenes. Scenes were shot so that whistles were blown when simple dialogues like ‘Jagan Reddy Kadapodu’ came out. 

Dialogues like ‘Activists don’t know politics as much as leaders do, sir’ are thought-provoking. Another reason for that is Santhosh Narayanan’s music! The songs and background music are superb. Editing is also good. Madhi’s cinematography is good. The second half assembly scenes would have been more interesting. As the history is known to the audience, Mahi did not get a chance to write his mark scenes there. That slows down the movie.

Yatra 2 Movie Actors Performance:

In ‘Yatra 2’, Mammootty once again mesmerized with his acting and dialogue delivery as YSR. Jiva Surprising Package. No one has used the actor in him to this extent. Once the movie starts, we forget Jeeva. We think Jagan. Jiva caught the attitude and mannerisms of YS Jagan. Ketaki Narayan as YS Bharti, Asrita Vemuganti as Vijayamma, and Mahesh Manjrekar as Chandrababu have shorter roles. But, still impressed. Shubhalekha Sudhakar, Kishore Kumar Polimera, and others acted brilliantly. Even though Tamil actor George Mariam appears in two or three scenes, the emotions are well worked out.

From the death of his father to his swearing-in as the Chief Minister, no one can describe the journey of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy better than this!? This is YS Jagan Jaitrayatra. If you look at the movie… it can be said that it is a decent film among the recent movies in the political context. Jagan’s opponents have little chance of liking the movie.
